If you spend some days in Cairns you'll notice their beautiful esplanade where you can stroll along the water edge's passing by a number of shady trees and green grass. But although the esplanade is right by the sea there is no sandy beach to be seen. Instead there is just a muddy area where birds gather to look for creatures to eat.
But if you're spending a day in the city and feel like cooling down you still have some options available for a nice bath. An open air lagoon pool has been made to make up for the lack of a sandy beach, and it is totally free for the public to use. The pool even has a sandy base, which makes it look like an ordinary beach, and there are lifeguards on duty who can make sure that kids can play safely in the water.
By the pool you can find an UV measurement device that displays the strength of the UV-rays at the given time |
The sea looks awesome from the pool, but when you look up close you'll probably not want to jump in there:

If you like to get up early in the morning you could always join the free fitness classes at the esplanade |
