Visit to a Luxury Outdoor Pool in Tokyo: The Hotel New Otani Garden Pool

For those who find themselves in Tokyo during the blazing hot summer season one upscale alternative to the major nightlife districts might just be a visit to the pool. The largest outdoor pool Tokyo has to offer, Hotel New Otani's Garden Pool, is just like a tropical oasis where you can forget that you're in the middle of the bustling Tokyo.

The summer season for the outdoor pool lasts from late July to mid-September (I've listed the dates for 2017 in the chart below). This year I had the chance to visit Hotel New Otani's pool for their pre-opening event the day before the official opening event, and have gathered some photos below.

The pool is nestled within the hotel's historic Japanese garden, and in order to get to the pool you have to walk through both the luxurious Hotel New Otani and the serene garden.

Arriving at the pool it feels like stepping into another world, making it strange to think that you're actually in the middle of the concrete Tokyo jungle. The pool is open between 9:00 am to 19:00 with last entrance at 18:00, so for those who have the whole day available it is possible to take the whole day to chill by the poolside and imagine you're at a tropical resort hotel.

During the summer visitors can enjoy a different vibe by the poolside after dusk. Going by the name THE "O" LOUNGE the place comes alive after 18:00 with stylish events including live DJ performances and flair bartendering. Certainly an awesome way to enjoy Tokyo nightlife! The price of getting into the pool area is included in the price of the day pool, so why not spend the whole day by the poolside before enjoying the nightlife atmosphere?

By the pool side you can find a small bar serving exclusive drinks and food. Above is their piña colada.
As one of the most exclusive pools in Tokyo it can be costly to get in, with the price ranging from 15,000-20,000 yen for all-day use (includes the night pool) and 8,000-10,000 for night use (18:00-22:00). However, staying guests at the hotel can get in for only 2,000 yen regardless of whether it is a weekday or weekend, so my advice would be to combine a visit with a stay at the hotel to get most out of it. The full price table can be found in the table below.
