If you spend some days in Cairns you'll notice their beautiful esplanade where you can stroll along the water edge's passing by a number of shady trees and green grass. But although the esplanade is right by the sea there is no sandy beach to be seen. Instead there is just a muddy area where birds gather to look for creatures to eat.
But if you're spending a day in the city and feel like cooling down you still have some options available for a nice bath. An open air lagoon pool has been made to make up for the lack of a sandy beach, and it is totally free for the public to use. The pool even has a sandy base, which makes it look like an ordinary beach, and there are lifeguards on duty who can make sure that kids can play safely in the water.
