Japan Theme Cafes: The Beauty and the Beast Cafe & Restaurant in Yokohama

In Japan, you can find a wide range of restaurants, cafes, and bars that specialize in a certain theme. It can be anything from greenhouse cafes and rabbit cafes to Moomin and penguin bars. With the recent popularity of Disney’s movie, the newest addition to this "theme cafe" trend is a newly opened Beauty and the Beast cafe/restaurant that you can visit in Yokohama called... *surprise, surprise*... Beauty&the Beast Cafe & Restaurant (美女と野獣のカフェ&レストラン).
The Castle of the Beast
The Beauty and the Beast Cafe & Restaurant is situated in the Yokohama-Kannai area, right behind the Yokohama Stadium and next to the street where Japan’s largest Chinatown begins. It can be a bit hard to notice at first; you have to look out for their restaurant sign outside the building and go from there down to the basement where the restaurant is located.
Lunch: 11:30 - 16:00 & Dinner 17:00 - 22:00
At the cafe/restaurant they're serving lunch from 11:30 - 16:00 and dinner from 17:00 - 22:00 (last order 21:00), and thus offer different menus depending on the time you're visiting.
Already by the entrance to the restaurant, you can get a sense of the restaurant theme
Already when you arrive outside the entrance you can see that this is not your ordinary dining venue. The waiting room is decorated with antique-looking furniture, and the wall is covered with roses.

The interior of the cafe takes inspiration from the movie as if you were inside the Beast’s castle, and there are also plenty of artifacts to remind you about the movies and book.

As I visited the restaurant during lunch hours I could take advantage of the special sets that they had prepared in the lunch menu. Starting at 1,800 yen the main plates are served with a salad, soup, and a drink.

My lunch: Hamburger (野獣の彩りハンバーグ)

The price range is rather high compared to what you can get a plate of lunch for elsewhere (even in the posh Ebisu lunch usually costs around 1,000 yen), but I suppose that’s what you can expect from a fancy theme cafe.

Personally, I was fine with experiencing the place once, but I don’t think I would become a repeater. You should note that they have a 2-hour time limit, so this is not the best place if you're looking for a place to use as your office for the day. On the bright side they, fortunately, accepted credit cards (at least my Japanese card was accepted), which some cafes in Japan still don't do.
